What do you think about using special rulers or templates?

Will you buy a pattern if it requires a plastic template or ruler in order to make it? I realize that some templates or specialty rulers are fairly ubiquitous. i.e. a 60 degree triangle. You probably don’t have to have one made by the same company the pattern designer used….
